Deebo Samuel
Deebo Samuel Questionable due to illness
Fri, Dec 12, 2025, 3:06 PM
Samuel (illness) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at the Giants.
Analysis: The Commanders added Samuel to their injury report at the end of the week, labeling him as a non-participant Friday. He'll have a couple of days to recover before a favorable matchup with the Giants at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday. With TE Zach Ertz (knee) out for the season, QB Marcus Mariota already is running low on reliable pass catchers beyond Terry McLaurin.
Chris Rodriguez
Chris Rodriguez Questionable for Sunday
Fri, Dec 12, 2025, 3:03 PM
Rodriguez (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at the Giants.
Analysis: The Commanders listed Rodriguez as a limited participant Thursday and Friday, after holding him out from Wednesday's session. Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Jeremy McNichols will take on larger roles if Rodriguez is declared inactive before the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday.
Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels Not cleared for contact yet
Fri, Dec 12, 2025, 12:51 PM
Daniels (elbow) has not been cleared for contract, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: An earlier report said Daniels was cleared for contact despite already being ruled out for Sunday's matchup with the Giants. It turns out that was just a typo or transcription error, with Commanders head coach Dan Quinn having actually said the opposite. Still, Quinn didn't rule Daniels out beyond Week 15 and once again suggested that the QB won't be shut down for the year unless he's truly unable to play. In any case, Marcus Mariota will start against the Giants on Sunday.
Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels Not cleared for contact
Fri, Dec 12, 2025, 11:42 AM
Daniels (elbow) has not been cleared for contact, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Daniels re-injured his dislocated left elbow in his first game back in the lineup, making an early exit from the blowout loss at Minnesota in Week 14. The Commanders will now start Marcus Mariota in Week 15 against the Giants, but Daniels hasn't been ruled out beyond that despite not having clearance for contact.
Deebo Samuel
Deebo Samuel Misses practice with illness
Fri, Dec 12, 2025, 11:39 AM
Samuel missed Friday's practice due to an illness, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Terry McLaurin also was absent, but in his case it was a planned maintenance day. Samuel's absence is somewhat more concerning, though he'll have a couple of days to get healthy before a matchup with the Giants on Sunday. Commanders coach Dan Quinn didn't comment Friday on expectations for Samuel's availability.
Chris Rodriguez
Chris Rodriguez Upgrades to limited Thursday
Thu, Dec 11, 2025, 3:07 PM
Rodriguez (groin) was a limited participant at Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Rodriguez didn't practice Wednesday, so Thursday's limited participation marks a step in the right direction. He has received a plurality of touches in Washington's backfield in recent weeks, working slightly ahead of Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Jeremy McNichols. If Rodriguez maintains that role Sunday, he could find success against a vulnerable Giants run defense, but he may need to upgrade to full participation Friday to avoid an injury designation.
Chris Rodriguez
Chris Rodriguez DNP due to groin issue
Wed, Dec 10, 2025, 3:10 PM
Rodriguez didn't practice Wednesday due to a groin injury.
Analysis: Over the last five games, Rodriguez has taken on the largest workload in the Commanders backfield, taking on 55 touches (for 259 total yards and three TDs) to Jacory Croskey-Merritt's 45 and Jeremy McNichols' 22. With a health concern now in tow, though, Rodriguez's status will need to be monitored as the week goes on to get a sense of his odds to play Sunday at the Giants.
Chase Edmonds
Chase Edmonds Signed from practice squad
Wed, Dec 10, 2025, 12:28 PM
The Commanders signed Edmonds from the practice squad to the active roster Wednesday.
Analysis: Edmonds will provide depth in a Washington backfield that also includes Chris Rodriguez, Jeremy McNichols and Jacory Croskey-Merritt. He was previously elevated from the practice squad by the Commanders to play Week 11, a game against the Dolphins in which Edmonds did not play on offense but handled seven snaps on special teams.
Marcus Mariota
Marcus Mariota Will start Week 15
Wed, Dec 10, 2025, 11:42 AM
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday that Mariota will start Sunday's game against the Giants and that Jayden Daniels (elbow) is ruled out.
Analysis: Mariota started in place of an injured Daniels from Week 8 to Week 13, a five-game stretch in which he averaged 186.6 passing yards and 30.8 rushing yards per contest, totaling six touchdowns and four interceptions. Daniels' return to action versus the Vikings in Week 14 was brief, as he was forced out in the third quarter due to an elbow injury. Entering in relief, Mariota completed two of four passes for 30 yards and an INT versus Minnesota while also rushing twice for seven yards and losing one fumble. While Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Daniels' current elbow injury is not a long-term concern and that he's suffered no structural setbacks, it's entirely possible Washington could opt to prioritize the franchise signal-caller's health and start Mariota under center for the remainder of the 2025 campaign.
Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels Ruled out for Week 15
Wed, Dec 10, 2025, 11:35 AM
Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday that Daniels (elbow) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Daniels suffered a left elbow injury during Washington's blowout loss to the Vikings in Week 14, and though it was reported that the second-year QB could have re-entered the contest and is not dealing with a long-term issue, backup Marcus Mariota will draw at least one more start. It remains to be seen whether Daniels could be sidelined longer than just Week 15, as his return versus Minnesota was his first game action since Week 7. Adam Schefter of ESPN confirms that he has not suffered any structural setbacks. Daniels' next chance to take the field will come Week 16 at home against the Eagles on Saturday, Dec. 20.
Zach Ertz
Zach Ertz Placed on IR
Wed, Dec 10, 2025, 8:14 AM
The Commanders placed Ertz (ACL) on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Ertz will officially miss the remainder of the 2025 season after suffering an ACL tear during Washington's 31-0 loss to the Vikings in Week 14. In his stead, reps at the tight end position are slated to be split between John Bates, Ben Sinnott and Colson Yankoff. Ertz is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The 25-year-old tight end racked up 50 catches for 504 yards and four touchdowns (72 targets) across 13 regular-season appearances in 2025.
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott Catches lone target in Week 14 loss
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 7:11 PM
Sinnott caught his lone target for an eight-yard gain during Washington's 31-0 loss to Minnesota on Sunday.
Analysis: Sinnott played just 13 of 52 offensive snaps (25 percent), but the second-year tight end's role should be larger over the final four games of the regular season after Zach Ertz tore his ACL during Sunday's loss. With Ertz done for the year, Sinnott and John Bates will be the top tight end options on the Commanders' active roster while practice squad member Lawrence Cager provides depth at the position.
John Bates
John Bates Set for larger role sans Ertz
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 7:07 PM
Bates did not record a target during the Commanders' 31-0 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
Analysis: Bates failed to see a target from a Commanders QB for the fifth time this season (and second time in Washington's last three games). However, with Zach Ertz out for the rest of season due to a torn ACL, Bates and Ben Sinnott are both poised for expanded roles on offense over the final four games of the regular season, starting with this Sunday's NFC East clash against the Giants.
Jaylin Lane
Jaylin Lane Just six offensive snaps Week 14
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 6:58 PM
Lane did not record a target during the Commanders' 31-0 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
Analysis: Lane didn't log a catch for a second consecutive week, though what's more alarming for the rookie fourth-rounder was that he saw the field for just six of 52 offensive snaps (11.5 percent) during Sunday's blowout loss. With Jayden Daniels aggravating his left elbow injury and Zach Ertz done for the season due to a torn ACL, it's hard to trust Lane or any of other Washington pass catcher outside of Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel heading into this Sunday's NFC East tilt against the Giants.
Treylon Burks
Treylon Burks Catchless in Minnesota
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 6:55 PM
Burks failed to reel in his only target in Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: Burks and the rest of Washington's offense were limited greatly, producing just 215 total yards in the blowout loss. The wide receiver logged 19 snaps on offense, which ranked fourth at his position behind Terry McLaurin (32), Noah Brown (32) and Deebo Samuel (27) in Week 14. Burks will look to get more involved in the team's Week 15 matchup with the Giants on the road.
Jeremy McNichols
Jeremy McNichols Used sparsley on offense
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 6:51 PM
McNichols caught his lone target for two yards and did not record a carry during the Commanders' 31-0 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
Analysis: Sunday marked the first time since Week 2 against the Packers that McNichols failed to record a carry, and his two-yard catch from Jayden Daniels (elbow) was his lone contribution on offense. McNichols' 18 offensive snaps were behind Chris Rodriguez (22) and ahead of Jacory Croskey-Merritt (10), but none of Washington's three running backs saw the field more than 42 percent of the team's offensive snaps. Through 13 regular-season games, McNichols has turned 32 carries into 211 yards (6.6 YPC) and a touchdown and has caught 18 passes (on 23 targets) for 151 yards.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt
Jacory Croskey-Merritt Limited output in Week 14
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 6:49 PM
Croskey-Merritt rushed the ball seven times for 32 yards in Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: Croskey-Merritt was once again uninspiring in Week 14, playing 10 snaps on offense, which was 12 fewer than fellow running back Chris Rodriguez (22). Croskey-Merritt has now gone eight straight games without reaching the end zone, and he hasn't crossed 40 yards on the ground since Week 6. With Washington's season going sideways and Rodriguez getting the majority of the workload in the backfield, Croskey-Merritt is an unappealing fantasy option at the moment.
Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels No long-term concerns with elbow
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 4:46 PM
Coach Dan Quinn noted Monday that Daniels is "sore" following Week 14 action, but added that there are no "long-term concerns" with the QB's left (non-throwing) elbow, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Per Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C., Quinn previously relayed that Daniels (left elbow) could have returned to Sunday's 31-0 loss to Vikings after exiting the contest, but it was a coach's decision to keep the signal-caller on the sideline. That said, Quinn indicated Monday that Daniels will be monitored ahead of Sunday's game against the Giants, with the QB's Week 15 status yet to be determined.
Zach Ertz
Zach Ertz ACL tear confirmed
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 2:38 PM
Coach Dan Quinn confirmed Monday that Ertz suffered a torn ACL during Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: With Ertz now slated to miss the rest of the season, John Bates, Ben Sinnott and Colson Yankoff are in line to handle the Commanders' TE duties down the stretch. Ertz thus finishes his 2025 campaign with 50 catches (on 72 targets) for 504 yards and four TDs in 13 games.
Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels Could have reentered Sunday's game
Sun, Dec 7, 2025, 3:47 PM
Coach Dan Quinn said after Sunday's 31-0 loss at Minnesota that Daniels (left elbow) could have returned to the game, but it was a coach's decision to keep him on the sideline, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports.
Analysis: Daniels took a hit to his previously dislocated left elbow on his interception in the third quarter and was in visible discomfort going to the medical tent. He was deemed questionable to return but never reentered the contest, with Marcus Mariota directing the Commanders offense the rest of the way. In what was his first game action since Week 9, Daniels finished with 78 yards, no touchdowns and one interception on 9-for-20 passing and four carries for 16 yards.
